When it comes to new android tablets, Google has continued to improve and refine its Android Operating System over the past few years. This has led to an increase in the amount of diverse high quality tablets being released into the market annually. This is good news for lovers of the Android OS as it provides alternatives to Apple iPad which has dominated the tablet market since it was introduced in 2010.

A major advantage which Android has over the iPad is that customers aren’t limited to a single choice when selecting hardware. This is because the OS can be accessed on different tablets from the various manufacturers. A minor setback is that all the different innovative features may come at the cost of battery life and reliability. Unfortunately, there is no single version of Android out in the market. This is because manufacturers are always customizing their products so as to differentiate their tablets. Currently, the latest iteration in the market is 5.0 “Lollipop”. It brings a whole new array of features and a complete visual display overhaul. It is currently considered as one of the most improved Android devices available with great improvements in multitasking, notifications and overall performance which have brought it to par with Apple and Windows. As expected, manufacturers will customize their devices by putting their own spin on the Lollipop through a complete overhaul of user interfaces, adding new app stores and a myriad of other features. Currently, there are “off-label” bargain tablets in the market which are serviceable and provide the same Lollipop experience but it is recommended to choose a brand that is trusted for quality hardware control and software support.

Display & design

When it new android tablets, nowadays, people don’t seem to mind performance; instead, they choose to focus on display and design features. Focusing on design matters, it totally depends on the customer’s requirements. However, looking at display, it is advisable to opt for tablets using 1080p resolution or higher. The most recommended display technologies are AMOLED, IPS and LCD.

  • 7” tablets

These are devices are portable, quite affordable and perfect for using while you are on the on the go. They are, however, poor for browsing or entertainment purposes due to the small screen size and tiny speakers. They also don’t suit work related purposes because they are uncomfortable when used in this mode for extended periods.

  • 10” tablets

These devices are excellent for entertainment, browsing and work related purposes. The downside is that they are bulky and can be quite dear.

  • 8” tablets

If you are looking for “a go between” the 7” and 10”, it is the way to go.
