Motorola Motonav TN765T Description:

Motorola has been selling personal navigation devices PNDs in the US for a few years now, but it has only just launched a range in Europe. Called the Motonav, it aims to offer something a little different to the existing brands. Our first look is the top of the range TN760t, and it marks itself out as soon as you remove it from the box.

The TN760t is a 5.1in widescreen device, but the display is actually being called cinematic, because it doesnt have a conventional 16.9 aspect, instead opting for 2.39.1. It also sports extra physical buttons on the left, right and top. Either side can be found a trio of paddles that operate a variety of functions. These include zooming the map in and out, calling up saved Favourite locations, controlling the volume, and muting sound, but customisation is possible too.

The TN765t took several minutes to lock on my location on numerous occasions. Motorola should work on speeding this up the next time around. Map graphics are sharp and detailed almost cartoon like compared with other navigation systems. The unit displays a realistic topography with accurate curves for all of the roads with 3D landmarks. It also shows lane assistance graphics for every exit on the highway above the map, which I found helpful. It even did this when I didnt have a route programmed. A separate display pops up with current speed and elevation info. While the TN765t displays speed limit signs on highways, it didnt for any local test streets in my tests.

Sold the SUV with the built-in Nav system and did not want to spend $1600 for bulit-in on the new car. Went for this unit after a lot of research. The best screen I've seen on a portable: great size, sharp colors, great text on nearby roads. Unit was easy to set up, & it is easy to type in destinations. Voice commands are problematic: any noise such as wind causes confusion. Having my cell phone via the Nav system is ok, but causes me to strech to get at commands such as mute. I'd rather have it linked to the car's bluetooth, but then I can't get the functions which rely of a cell connection. Unit uses Navteq maps, so similar to many other units. However, the software seems to be better than other similiar models, and voice commands have more detail. My dash is deep, so I usually have to dismount the unit to input complex addresses. Since there are many command buttons all around the unit, and because of the design of the cradel, dismounting is often awkward, with the unit either ending up on the floor, or several commands are triggered. I would also like to have a wall charger rather than having to use the USB charger hooked to my PC. But, the pros outweight the cons for this $300 unit, so I would recommend it for all but the experts who have more demands than I do.
ADVANTAGES:
The multifunction panel layout, with the hide feature, is extremely innovative and can be usefu
DISADVANTAGES:
The MotoExtras have little to no value to me.

It's just OK. I think there are easier ones to work out there.
ADVANTAGES:
Very good screen resolution compared to other GPS of this type
DISADVANTAGES:
Hesitates during text entry. Makes it difficult to know if it has accepted the keystroke and thus makes typing difficult

Bought this unit thinking the motorola name meant something it does mean a very poor and outdated set of maps. No customer support. No chance of updates. Bluetooth does not work and cannot use the GPS for trips as the maps are old. Do not buy. Wish someone has told me. Will never buy motorola again.
ADVANTAGES:
Very good map and junction detail
DISADVANTAGES:
The adverts say Google, the menu says Bing

I LOVE my Motorola GPS! I've taken it all over with me - and it functions well in every location! The colors are beautiful, and there is plenty of information, directions East, West, South, North, nice directions verbalized with acceptable accent!! I recommend this over Garmin, and all other popular brands for my second car. I've tried them all, but returned them and happily carry my Motonav around with me, on planes for rental cars at various destinations.
ADVANTAGES:
Address search is way fast - 6 seconds to calculate a coast to coast trip
DISADVANTAGES:
Fiddly mount - not easy to locate the GPS correctly without practice

I wouldn't buy it again. I am not sure if they even offer them anymore. This review comes in little late. I believe I got it like 3-4 years ago. Very slow processor. Display is large and good, that's why I got it. Bluetooth sync is a disaster. Tried to use it at the beginning but forget it.
ADVANTAGES:
Lots of extras, live search options, fuel prices and all else
DISADVANTAGES:
Recent calls list appeared to be out of order, maybe oldest first?
